USDA Registers New Plant Varieties

WASHINGTON - Mar 26/08 - SNS -- The USDA issued certificates of protection to developers of 25 new varieties of seed-reproduced and tuber-propagated plants. They include bean, lettuce, pea, rye and wheat.

The certificates are being issued under the Plant Variety Protection Act. The certificates require that the varieties be new, distinct, uniform and stable. The owners will have the exclusive right to reproduce, sell, import and export their products in the United States for the duration of protection.

The certificates are:

- the Nash and Duke varieties of garden bean, developed by Syngenta Seeds, Inc., Boise, Idaho;

- the BANGA variety of garden bean, developed by Seminis Vegetable Seeds, Inc., Oxnard, Calif.;

- the PS 06515293 variety of lettuce, developed by Seminis Vegetable Seeds, Inc., Oxnard, Calif.;

- the Bergam’s Green variety of lettuce, developed by Enza Zaden Beheer B.V., The Netherlands;

- the Portage and Deschutes varieties of pea, developed by Crites-Moscow Growers, Inc., Moscow, Idaho;

- the AGS 104 variety of rye, developed by Florida Agricultural Experiment Station & University of Georgia Research Foundation, Gainesville, Fla.;

- the Sounder variety of common wheat, developed by Plant Breeders 1 Inc. Moscow, Idaho;

- the Ultra and Cal Rojo varieties of common wheat, developed by Resource Seeds, Inc., Gilroy, Calif.;

- the Fortissimo variety of durum wheat, developed by Resource Seeds, Inc., Gilroy, Calif.;

- the LH360, LH332, LH324, LH249, and LH370 varieties of field corn, developed by Holden’s Foundation Seeds L.L.C., DeKalb, Ill.;

- the PH2N1 and PH9HM varieties of field corn, developed by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., Johnston, Iowa;

- the I180421 variety of field corn, developed by Monsanto Technology L.L.C., DeKalb, Ill.;

- the Lucy variety of hard fescue, developed by Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick, N.J.;

- the Fortitude variety of red fescue, developed by Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick, N.J.;

- the Silverado II variety of tall fescue, developed by Pure Seed Testing, Inc., Hubbard, Ore.;

- the Inverness variety of red fescue, developed by Pure Seed Testing, Inc., Hubbard, Ore.; and

- the ACX-351 variety of muskmelon (F1), developed by Abbott and Cobb, Inc., Feasterville, Pa.
