Farm Input Costs in the U.S. Down From Last Year

WASHINGTON - Mar 28/08 - SNS -- The March Index of Prices Paid for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW) is 176% of the 1990-92 average, according to the current USDA data.

The index is up 3 points (1.7%) from February and 17 points (11%) above March 2007.

Higher prices in March for diesel fuel, nitrogen fertilizers, complete feeds, and feed supplements more than offset lower prices for potash & phosphate materials, feeder cattle, trucks, and autos. The March Index of Prices Paid for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW) at 176 (1990-92=100), is up 1.7% from February 2008 and 11% from March 2007. PRODUCTION INDEX: The March index, at 179, increased 2.9% from last month and 14% from last year.
