Upper U.S. Midwest Organic Grain and Feedstuffs

DES MOINES - May 7/08 - SNS -- Bi-weekly USDA report on organic grain and feedstuffs prices in the U.S. upper midwest.

Upper Midwest Organic Grain & Feedstuffs Report (Bi-Weekly)
Weighted Average Report for the Week Ending 05/03/08

Compared to two weeks ago, organic grain and feedstuff prices were steady to
firm on light demand and light offerings. Corn is moving, while soybeans
seem to be nonexistent. Hearing of bids for organic soybean imports from
South America, shipped to the Midwest, from $41 to $45 per bushel. There are
concerns that organic acres are not increasing as fast as demand. This is
especially true of soybeans, where acres are projected to be less than a year
ago. Saw some organic wheat being imported from Canada. Oats are going to be
in short supply as acres may be considerably lower due to rain delays. In
Iowa, for the week ending May 3, only 51 percent of the oats were planted,
compared to the 5 year average of 96 percent. So what isn't planted by now,
probably won't get planted. Corn plantings for the same period were at 27
percent complete, down from the 5 year average of 59 percent. Monthly and
first quarter average prices located below. All prices FOB the farm and
negotiated spot market.
