New Pulse Growers Board Members

SASKATOON - Dec 11/09 - SNS -- Farmers in Saskatchewan elected two new members to the board of directors of the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers board and returned an existing member for another term.

"We are pleased to announce the election results for the three open positions on the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) Board," says Garth Patterson, Executive Director. "There were 3,485 votes cast on 1,374 ballots this year," notes Patterson.

Murray Purcell, who farms near Pike Lake, has been re-elected to the Board of Directors for his second three-year term. Murray is looking forward to serve another term on the Board of Directors and is committed to continuing SPG's investment into Research and Development and the collaboration with the Crop Development Centre.

New to the Board is Dan Flynn who farms in the Beechy area. Dan farms with his family growing red lentils large green lentils and yellow peas. Dan has been elected to represent the interest of producers and processors, promote market development for Saskatchewan pulse crops, help facilitate growth in the pulse industry and to ensure Saskatchewan producers know how their check-off dollars are being spent.

Also new to the SPG Board is Vicki Dutton from Paynton. Vicki and her husband have a 25 to 33 per cent pulse crop rotation of peas and red lentils. Vicki and her husband are also pedigreed and Select status seed growers. During her time on the Board Vicki will work towards continuing to add value to the pulse varieties and recognize opportunities for the growth of the industry.

The new Board members will assume responsibility following the Annual General Meeting on January 11, 2010 during SPG's annual Pulse Days conference.
