SPG Funds ScholarshipsSASKATOON - Apr 15/10 - SNS -- The Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) will fund five undergraduate scholarships for first year students enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in a degree program that is associated with the pulse industry or agriculture. The one-time scholarships, valued at $5000.00 each, are available to applicants who are or whose parent(s) are a registered Saskatchewan pulse producer (i.e. they have sold or grown pulses in the last two years). The applicant must show an interest in pursuing a career related to agriculture, while having completed Grade 12 with a minimum average of 70% based on official transcripts. The applicant must also demonstrate leadership within their school and community. "SPG is excited to once again offer these scholarships to first year U of S students that have demonstrated community involvement and are excited at the idea of a career in agriculture," notes Raelene Regier, Variety Program Administrator with SPG. "Lasts year's recipients were prime examples of how many degree programs at the U of S can be used to benefit the pulse industry. These are the individuals who will contribute to the success of the Saskatchewan pulse industry." The application deadline for these scholarships is June 18, 2010.
