USDA National Grain Review

ST. JOSEPH - Jan 20/12 - SNS -- The USDA issued its latest weekly national grain market review, covering the period through Jan 20.


WEEKLY NATIONAL GRAIN MARKET REVIEW

   Compared to last week, grains were mostly lower to mixed with soybean bids
higher.  Grains started out the week with solid gains with soybeans leading the
way sharply higher.  Weather and crops in South America continues to be watched
closely as it appears that production will be lower than anticipated in key
growing areas.  Wheat continues to have ample world supplies with the U.S.
winter wheat crop improving had wheat mixed for the week.  Wheat continues to
follow the dollar index very closely.  On Thursday of this week, buying interest
returned to the grains after sharply lower closes on Wednesday as renewed buying
interest returned on good export demand for corn and soybeans helped to spark
the market and a weaker dollar index help to put a positive tilt to the grain
markets.  Corn had weekly exports above expectations at 759,900 mt (29.9 mb).
Soybeans had bullish export sales of 991,100 mt (36.4 mb).  Wheat had weekly
export sales above expectations of 587,200 mt (21.6 mb).  Wheat closed mixed for
the week.  Yellow Corn was mostly 2-7 cents lower.  Sorghum was 11-18 cents
lower.  Soybeans were 16-34 cents higher.

   WHEAT:  Kansas City US No 1 Hard Red Winter, ordinary protein rail bid was 2
to 10 cents lower from 7.23-7.61 per bushel.  Kansas City US No 2 Soft Red
Winter rail bid was 5 cents lower from 6.18-6.98 per bushel.  St. Louis truck US
No 2 Soft Red Winter terminal bid was 5 cents higher at 6.20 per bushel.
Minneapolis and Duluth US No 1 Dark Northern Spring, 14.0 to 14.5 percent
protein rail, 21 1/2-66 1/2 cents higher from 9.39-9.89 per bushel. Portland US
Soft White wheat rail was 25 cents higher from 6.25-6.30 per bushel.

   CORN:  Kansas City US No 2 rail White Corn was 49 to 54 cents lower from
7.34-7.43 per bushel.  Kansas City US No 2 truck Yellow Corn was 6 to 7 cents
lower from 6.18-6.21 per bushel.  Omaha US No 2 truck Yellow Corn was 5 to 7
cents higher from 6.11-6.13 per bushel.  Chicago US No 2 Yellow Corn was 2 1/2-5
1/2 cents lower from 5.86-6.15 per bushel.  Toledo US No 2 rail Yellow corn was
2 1/2-3 1/2 cents lower from 6.03-6.06 per bushel.  Minneapolis US No 2 Yellow
Corn rail no bid per bushel.

   OATS AND BARLEY:  US 2 or Better oats, rail bid to arrive at Minneapolis 20
day was 8 1/2 cents higher from 3.02 3/4-3.27 3/4 per bushel.  US No 3 or better
rail malting Barley, 70 percent or better plump out of Minneapolis was 5 cents
lower at 7.15 per bushel.  Portland US 2 Barley, unit trains and Barges-export
was not available per cwt.

   SORGHUM:  US No 2 yellow truck, Kansas City was 11 cents lower at 10.82 per
cwt.  Texas High Plains US No 2 yellow sorghum (prices paid or bid to the
farmer, fob elevator) was 18 cents lower from 10.20-10.82 per cwt.

   OILSEEDS:  Minneapolis Yellow truck soybeans no bid per bushel.  Illinois
Processors US No 1 Yellow truck soybeans were 16 1/2 to 19 1/2 cents higher from
11.89-12.02 per bushel.  Kansas City US No 2 Yellow truck soybeans were 34 cents
higher at 12.07 per bushel.  Central Illinois 48 percent Soybean meal, processor
rail bid was 8.60-13.60 higher from 302.70-317.70 per ton.  Central Illinois
Crude Soybean oil processor bid was 40 to 65 points lower from 50.31-50.56 cents
per pound.
