DES MOINES - May 11/04 - SNS -- The USDA's Argicultural Market Service (AMS) office here issued its latest daily review of the U.S. carlot market for various types of meat.


USDA Carlot Meat 4:00 Summary, Compared to Previous Day
Prices in dollars per hundredweight, Equated to FOB Omaha Basis

National Boxed Beef Cutout
   Boxed beef cutout values generally steady on moderate demand and offerings.
Select cuts steady to weak, while Choice cuts steady to firm. Beef trimmings
generally steady on moderate demand and offerings.
   Estimated composite cutout value of Choice 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses up .38
at 160.58, 600-750 lbs carcasses dn .32 at 160.37, 750-900 lbs up .27 at 161.56;
Select 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses dn .27 at 139.02, 600-750 lbs dn .66 at 139.69,
750-900 lbs dn .39 at 139.09; based on 123.24 loads of Choice cuts, 126.13 loads
of Select cuts, 17.27 loads of Trimmings, and 59.95 loads of coarse ground
trimmings.

   Estimated carcass price equivalent value of Choice 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses
up .18 at 147.67, 600-750 lbs dn .22 at 147.46, 750-900 lbs up .19 at 148.27;
Select 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses dn .07 at 127.10, 600-750 lbs dn .28 at 127.48,
750-900 lbs dn .11 at 127.10.
   Current index reflects the equivalent of 436,541 head of cattle.

NATIONAL 5 DAY-ROLLING CUTTER COW CUTOUT
   The Cutter cow carcass gross cutout value was estimated at 112.86 up 1.56.

By-Product Drop Value
   Hide and offal from a typical slaughter steer was estimated at 8.12, dn .03.

National Carlot Pork
   Sales reported on 105.88 loads of pork cuts and 27.0 loads of trim/process
pork.
   Compared to Monday's Close:  Fresh loins mostly firm to 6.00 higher; butts
steady; sknd hams 20-27 lbs 1.00-2.00 higher; sdls bellies 14-16 lbs not tested;
lean trimmings 1.00-2.00 higher. Trading moderate to active, with good demand
and light to moderate offerings.
   *Calculations for a 185 lb Pork Carcass 51-52 percent lean 0.80" -0.99" back
fat at last rib.* **82.82 up 2.05.** Loins bone in fresh 1/4 inch trim 21# DN-
LGT 136.00-145.00; Hams bone in trimmed, 20-23 lbs trim spec 1 60.00.
